Announcement for IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) 59th edition

Please be informed that some handling procedures are changed in accordance with IATA DGR 59th edition effective January 1st, 2018 as following.
1. Amendment to the regulation of lithium batteries
Packing Instruction 965 (UN3480 Lithium ion batteries) and Packing Instruction 968
(UN3090 Lithium metal batteries)
A. Following description on additional requirements on Section IA and Section IB
have been added;
① Cells and batteries must not be packed in the same outer packaging with
dangerous good classified in Class 1 (explosives) other than Division
1.4S, Division 2.1 (flammable gases), Class 3 (flammable liquids), Division 4.1
(flammable solids) or Division 5.1 (oxidizers).
② Packages containing cells or batteries must not be placed in an overpack with
packages containing dangerous goods classified in Class 1 other than Division
1.4S, Division 2.1, Class 3, Division 4.1 or Division 5.1
B. Following description on additional requirements on Section II has been added;
Cells and batteries must not be packed in the same outer packaging with other
dangerous good.
C. Underlined parts on overpack requirements on Section II lithium batteries have
been added;
No more than one (1) package complying with the requirements of Section II may
be placed in an overpack. The overpack may also contain packages of dangerous
goods, other than dangerous goods classified in Class 1 other than Division
1.4S, Division 2.1, Class 3, Division 4.1 and Division 5.1, or goods not subject
to these Requlations provided that the packages do not contain substances which
might react dangerously with each other.
2. Amendment to the regulation of engines
It has been added to Special Provision A70 to indicate that the shipper is required
to provide the operator with written or electronic documentation stating that a
flushing and purging procedure has been followed, if the shipper intends to
transport flammable liquid powered engine, internal combustion, or fuel cell
engine as not-restricted item.
After January 1st 2018, if you intend to transport flammable liquid powered
engine as not-restricted item, please note that you will be required to submit
written or electronic documentation to the carrier to prove that a flushing
and purging of the goods has been appropriately completed.
